The Decolonisation of Africa Documentary Screens to a Full House at School of African Studies – SOAS as Part of The Film Africa Film Festival 2024

The critically acclaimed documentary The Decolonisation of Africa was screened on the 28th  October 2024 at SOAS University in London to a packed audience, as part of the prestigious Film Africa Film Festival. The screening marked a major highlight of the festival, which celebrates the best of African cinema and storytelling.

Produced by Accelerate Studios, The Decolonisation of Africa is a powerful exploration of Africa’s journey to self-determination, told through archival footage, expert commentary, and vivid narration. The documentary captures the complex history, struggles, and triumphs of African nations in their quest for independence from colonial rule.

The London screening brought together academics, students, members of the African diaspora, and creatives from across the UK to engage with the continent’s history through a cinematic lens. The screening was followed by a compelling panel discussion featuring key contributors to the documentary, including associate producer and researcher Ed Emeka Keazor, director Bardia “Illy” Olowu, and contributor Keith Richards OBE. Their insights set the stage for an engaging audience Q&A, which underscored the documentary’s powerful relevance to ongoing global conversations around identity, historical justice, and the cultural redefinition of Africa’s past and future.

Colette Otusheso, CEO of Accelerate Media Group, said:
“We are proud to have partnered with The Royal Africa Society and the Film Africa Film Festival to showcase this important work. ‘The Decolonisation of Africa’ is more than a documentary, it is a call to reflect, to educate, and to reframe Africa’s historical narrative through our own lens. We are deeply honoured by the response and engagement from the London audience.”

This screening is part of a wider international tour for The Decolonisation of Africa, a landmark documentary designed to ignite global conversations around Africa’s post-colonial journey, historical reframing, and cultural resurgence. Through screenings in major cities worldwide, the film aims to engage diverse audiences, provoke thought, and inspire a deeper understanding of Africa’s path to independence and self-determination.
