As The Accelerate Group grew, we recognised the transformative power of content creation in driving change within Africa’s creative industry. In response to growing audience demand, we began collaborating with emerging filmmakers and production companies, showcasing talents like Lala Akindoju (The Black Book), Seyi Babatope (When Love Happens), and Akah Nnani (Banana Island Ghost). These experiences highlighted the need to bridge the skills gap and provide a platform for African creators to thrive.
This led to the launch of Accelerate Plus on April 29, 2022—a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform designed to be more than a streaming service. Featuring original productions such as The Shade Corner, Visa on Arrival, and The Olive, along with commissioned works from filmmakers across Africa, Accelerate Plus celebrates and amplifies African storytelling.
With curated content from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, and Uganda, Accelerate Plus offers African filmmakers global distribution opportunities while ensuring fair compensation. Notable collaborations include Michael “Amapsalmist” (Clinically Speaking), ILLRYMZ’s Contagious Collective (Your City, My View, Off The Menu), and Seyi Babatope’s We’re Never Gonna Make It.
Beyond streaming, Accelerate Plus drives change in Africa’s creative landscape. Through initiatives like The Accelerate Film Maker Project and The Phoenix Project, we nurture young talent, equipping them with skills to enter the industry and empowering them to tell Africa’s stories to the world. By fostering creativity and creating opportunities, Accelerate Plus contributes to both the cultural and economic growth of the continent.
